I’m Renaat from the small village Heuvelland, south of Ypres, West Flanders.
(In Brussels they might call me Renée, but I will say this only once.)
June 2009 I graduated from TTC, having read history, geography and civics. (TTC: Teacher Training College.) From september onwards I have been teaching general subjects in secondary school to pupils with special needs. History isn’t part of their curriculum, but it remains one of my passions, while photography is a main hobby.
Having been born and residing among the battlefields of The Great War, monuments, graveyards, old bomb craters and other scars in the landscape, are daily reminders of the immeasurable suffering and sacrifice.
Between 2014 and 2018 we celebrate one hundred years of remembrance in Flanders Fields.
Combining my hobby and my passion will result in thisblog: http://www.thelastwitnesses.wordpress.com I will post my pictures of the visible remnants of World War I ( The Last Witnesses ).
